Golden turmeric tea. Your new, super-healthy habit!

Okay, so this is not a Greek recipe, but I had to share!

I tried golden turmeric tea (or ‘golden milk’) for the first time earlier this month. Yummiest thing I’ve ever tasted! Used almond milk the first time and coconut milk after that too. Almond milk makes the tea thicker and was tastier, at least that’s what I thought.

As we near the end of another year, this is the best time to reflect, to make new resolutions, and to enhance our lives further by embracing new healthy habits. Start with golden turmeric tea and see for yourselves how ‘healthy’ can be a synonym to ‘yummy’ and ‘irresistible’!


INGREDIENTS (for 2 cups)

1 cup of almond milk (or coconut milk)

1 cup of water

1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder

A small, 1/2 inch slice of fresh ginger (or 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder)

1/4 teaspoon peppercorns

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil

1 cinnamon stick

Cinnamon powder for serving



Put the water and the milk in a saucepan with all the ingredients except for the cinnamon powder.

Bring to a low boil (emphasis on low!). Cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes.

Strain into a kettle. I put a large plate under the  kettle as I pour the liquid in to protect the kitchen counter. Turmeric stains heavily.

Pour immediately into the cups and serve with a sprinkle of cinnamon powder. If you’re serving later, stir the ingredients in the kettle first as powder from the spices sits at the bottom.

NOTE: Do not omit the peppercorns. If you don’t have any, use some black pepper powder. Black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric in the body by up to 2,000%! Unreal but true!

NOTE:  You can make more teacups in advance and keep the tea in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. Stir and take out the amount that you need as the powder sits at the bottom. Reheat before serving and remember to sprinkle cinnamon powder. It’s not just highly beneficial, it burns fat in the body too. The honey in the tea makes that last effect super-amplified!
